  • Skoda's five-door coupe plans

    Jul 08, 2009 7:55 AM

Skoda will enlarge its range from today’s five models to seven models within five years — and the line-up will include a five-door coupe.

The new Focus/Astra-sized car has been signed off by senior management and the full-scale styling models are finished. It is due to go on sale in 2012 or 2013, fitting between the Fabia and next-generation Octavia, which will grow slightly in size.

Yay! Yet another 5 door 'coupe'

As for 2 new models over the next 5 years, its hardly anything to brag about.

I'm so bored with the 5 door coupe thing! Coupes have 2 doors and a boot.

Was the Renault 25 a 5 door coupe? Or the last gen Granada?

No, so neither is the rx8, Passat CC, Merc CLS or this thing.

    From dictionary.com...

    1. Also, coupé. a closed, two-door car shorter than a sedan of the same model.

    From wikipedia.com...

with doors commonly reduced from 4 to 2,

    From me...

Coupes have 2 doors and a boot.
Art as expression, not as market campaigns.
    Will still capture our imagination.

Mmm, aren't Skoda allowed to make 2,3 door cars?

Anyway, a Coupe should really be 2 doors, and RWD! That's why the VW Scirrocco isn't a true Coupe.

Ahhh, this is a ploy by the German manufacturers.  In a couple of years time the idea of a true Coupe will have disappeared and they will re-invent it and give it a new name in exactly the same way as the hatchback of today!!!

    It's all about the twisties....

The Scirrocco isn't a coupe because it is too high and has a 2-box shape. It has nothing to do with RWD.

Whether it's a coupe or not (it's not) it sounds like an interesting proposition. I'm hoping for the first Skoda that isn't either ugly or just plain dull. The Yeti gets close by at least being interesting.

If you haven't driven a particular car don't say you have just to prove a point. It doesn't fool anybody and is bloody annoying.

i would tend to discount Dictionary.com definitions, its an American language site.

    Oxford:

    coupé

    /koopay/ (also coupe /koop/)

      • noun a car with a fixed roof, two doors, and a sloping rear.

      — ORIGIN originally denoting an enclosed carriage for two passengers and a driver: from French carrosse coupé ‘cut carriage’.

so the ideal coupe is a strict 3 seater only, aswell as 2 door.

i'm on the look out for a 2 storey bungalow btw.
