  • Dodge cars to be Alfas in Europe

    Jul 01, 2009 12:57 PM

Dodge models could be rebadged in Europe as Alfa Romeos as part of Fiat’s restructuring plans for Chrysler.

Fiat and Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has revealed he sees the two brands as sharing the same core identity and he aims to have a strategy in place for what to do with the brands by the end of the month.

One proposal Marchionne is considering is to sell all Dodge models as Alfa Romeos in Europe, and all Alfa Romeo models as Dodges in the US.

I hope this isn't true. Since when were Alfas ever seen as muscle cars? Beautiful and sophisticated maybe but I can't see the brand being compared to a brutish Viper type. An Alfa Romeo badged Dodge Caliber anyone? No, I didn't think so.

    ???

"Dodge models could be rebadged in Europe as Alfa Romeos as part of Fiat’s restructuring plans for Chrysler."

Does-he speak about the prestigious Alfa Romeo of Milano?

     Or is-it an american brand?

What an analysis? If the partnership begins like that...

I bet on the success of this subject!

I can see the logic in utilising the Chrysler/Dodge dealer network in the US and the Fiat network in Europe but I think it would be a step too far to start renaming Alfa's as Dodge's and vice versa. No one is ever going to believe that Alfa designed the Viper and the thought of seeing the beautiful badge in the US is very appealing. Lets hope they have a rethink

Hello everybody in Europeland - my name is Sergio Marchionneone, I am the CEO of FIAT and that Americam Cowboy outfit we acquired recently.

Very late one evening after too many grappas I had this amazing idea ...  Dodge is the American muscle car, while Alfa Romeo is the European muscle car. - lets make extra Alfa Romeo badges and glue them on these big beautiful Dodgem cars and sell them to you all  :o)

now I should be called 44 cars so far ... and 21 motorbikes !

He was in one of the restaurants in the hills around Torino wasn't he? I've noticed the effect of the red wines of Piedmonte myself after a long day looking at prototypes, but he's been going over the top hasn't he?

Why should we in Europe have Dodges foisted on us in any way shape or form, let alone with the ultimate insult  to us, an Alfa badge? Every review that I have seen, including Autocar's compares them unfavourably with their real competition, the bigger Hyundais and Kias, so just let them die, that's all they deserve.

Okay, so these plans go ahead, are we going to see a standard vehicle or is it going to be tuned for its respective markets?

If it's not, it will fail in one of them......

    It's all about the twisties....

Just read everyone elses comments, and agree. Alfa's are expensive for what they are. Dodge's appear cheap. Alfa'a typically have nice interiors, Dodges are as cheap as their cars. Dodge make all sorts of things. An Alfa Ram pick up anyone?
