I would take the 911 any day over the Corvette and I don't even like 911's...

what an dreadful transmission the corvette appears to have!

its effectively putting 0bhp to the wheels through those clunky changes . no wonder the 911 wins.

also over 10% inaccuracy on the speedo...

Chevrolet will crushed to hear you say that.

I'm surprised that the ZR1 didn't win both tests, given its superior power to weight and the fact that it's had 0-60 timed as low as 3.4 secs. Didn't think GT2's standing start traction advantage and superior gearbox would more than make up the diff.

Still though the 3.82 sec Matt Prior recorded for the Corvette's 0-60 seems a tad slow (no offence Matt).

More self fulfilling prophecy, the Vette never had a chance. In the real world in every other magazine the Vette wins every time. Haters ensue…now.

There are some who contribute to this forum for who certain manufacturers can do no right, no matter what they do. They're poorly made, the suspension is crap etc, etc no matter what the truth is.

Everybody is entitled to an opinion of course, no matter what the fact tell us.

If you haven't driven a particular car don't say you have just to prove a point. It doesn't fool anybody and is bloody annoying.

You can hear the ZR1 wheelspinning in third. It's a wonder it still hung on... Even its active dampers can't help it work around the laws of physics.

In the real world, a car that looses traction in third gear would be a handful. In the the real, the Corvette would be even more handicapped by its lack of engineering refinement. Wheelspins? Over 600 supercharged horsepower on a 51% front 49% rear weight disribution. The Z06 should be a better car.

Oh, and that transparent bonnet, trashy looking.

So, how much horsepower do you thnk the 911 puts down during gear changes?  Yep, a big fat zero too!  You can have the Beetle, I'll take the 'Vette.

Having owned a V8 with the same gearbox (all be it with a fair bit less power), I wondered then as I do now why they haven't refined it yet?   Forget all this talk about it needing to be robust because of the power, Porsche show that a decent gearbox can be made to cope with that.

As for the test, I would happily own either car.  The Porsche for its mechanical refinement and integrity, the Corvette for its V8 engine and lag free performance.

Now, how about the Corvette engine in a Porsche, say the Panamera.  Now that would be interesting!

    It's all about the twisties....

    From the GM Performance website...

    Enhanced TR6060 Transmission
Another factor in the performance and durability of the ZR1 drivetrain is of course the transmission, which is an evolved version of the T56 we know and love. "The TR6060 launched with the 2008 model year, and that was just one more step in taking a transmission that 10 years ago was capable of 350 lb-ft and getting it up into the torque ranges of today," says Kline. Features like increased gear widths and a new synchronizer package all carry over into the 2009 ZR1, but the new car also gets high-strength materials, like an SAE 9310 input shaft and SAE 4615 mainshaft.

Additionally, fifth and sixth gear now sport higher-strength SAE 8822 material. Surely one of the reasons for this is that they'll be used to their full ability. Thanks to its application-specific close-ratio gearset, the ZR1 will make better use of its overdrive ratios and will actually top out in top gear--a first for six-speed Corvettes. Rpm drop during gear changes will be minimized--and first gear (by carrying a taller 2.29 ratio) also allows better traction at low speed, including during a launch. Other slight changes, like alterations to the gear helix angles were made for the ZR1, but despite all of its strength-enhancing features, GM says there's no driver-perceptible difference between this car's tranny and the other TR6060s in the lineup. "It's a very nice performance package, with the same type of no-noise operation that you expect out of the Tremec products--but with the strength to handle the torque of the LS9," says Kline.

The TR6060 Transmission is an improved version of the T-56 which was also used in the following cars...

    Aston Martin DB7 Vantage, 1999–2003
    Aston Martin V12 Vanquish, 2001–2006

I guess Aston didn't know what they were doing either.

Another test with slightly different results.
