A prototype MG X-Power SV is being offered for sale at auction.

Production of the SV came to a premature end following the collapse of MG Rover in 2005 and just 64 cars were originally produced.

The car’s rights were acquired last year by William Riley, a former member of the Riley Motor dynasty, and he is continuing to develop the MG X-Power SV.

This car was always vastly overpriced and undertalented. It was irrelevant at the time, never mind now.

It's certainly a bargain given the list price, however can you truly forgive the Fiat Punto headlights? That's pure "down to a cost" development.

I know it wasn't the greatest car in the world, but even so £30k sounds like a steal, and I'm sure then engine could be tweaked to get a bit nearer 500bhp out of it.

Some people just don't know when to give up! It failed as a Qvale. It failed as an MG. Will it succeed as a Riley, a brand name which conjures up images of plodding sit up and beg saloons of the 50's? I'd love to meet the misty eyed marketing man who believes this. He would be able to convince me my finances look great.

So the car was intended for Motorsport and track day use... Is that cupholders I spy between the two front seats?

No, they are nitrous-oxide cylinder holders

Good lord, people - let's not be so miserable! Arguably weird that someone's decided it'd be a good idea to push on with a car that the market couldn't bear back when it first came out, but each to their own.

And yes - that's not much cash for something so unusual.

Vote with your wallets - you don't like it...so don't buy it! Someone else certainly will.

I cant speak for its dynamic qualities but i think the SV looks brutally handsome and very purposeful. not classically beautiful but this motor will hold more long term appeal.

As for the headlights they are way too sexy for a little FIAT and sit on the front of the SV like they had been designed for it.

A ridiculous folly for a dying manufacturer though and the new price was also alarming.

I totally agree with johnfortwo - wasn't feeling brave to say so until I read that, but yes I think the car is a brutally handsome thing, much in the same vein as an Alfa SZ which I also love.

....SV... SZ ...OMG is there something in two door coupes with such angry styling that they look like they'd mug you for your last coppers that requires them to be named with two letters beginning with S ?!!

Anyway if I had the money (to waste) I'd be half tempted by this - its a complete folly but hey ho its different. Best of luck to whoever gets it!
