  • Spied: Peugeot RC Z

Peugeot engineers have been caught final testing the Audi TT-rivalling 308 RC Z, which will be fitted with a Mini Cooper JCW 1.6 turbo, possibly tuned to 218bhp.

As you can see from our spy pictures the production car is almost identical to the concept unveiled at the 2007 Frankfurt show.

The headlights have been toned down slightly and the kink along the bottom of the side windows is not so exaggerated, but the overall proportions are the same.

The production car is even li...Read the full article

I hope there is something a little more powerful coming, especially considering Peugeot are promising this car is going to more like their old products, and handle!

    It's all about the twisties....

I cant see Peugeot doing a more powerful version than 218bhp. They have pretty much abandoned the 'sporty performance' market and dont even offer a proper hot hatch in their entire range.

I fear this is more about style than ability. Even with 218bhp, it still wont be that quick, because it will be heavy, and then of course it will still be front wheel drive, with a torsion beam rear. Not exactly a promising start. Sad when you concider what they made in the past.

Looks and sounds encouraging.  I agree that 218 bhp doesn't sound that much but perhaps a hybrid will come along with the electric motors powering the rear.  Agree with PSA's decision to give the V6 a pass - it would sell in miserably small numbers and be nose heavy to boot.  I believe this will be a commercial success for PSA although I still hope they make a hotter version later with twin-turbos??

Nice to see they've kept the shape of the rear windscreen from the concept

Loved the concept, hope the detailing's not too diluted when it's in the showroom. I don't get all these 'only 218hp' comments; that should be about right for a 0-60 in just less than 7 secs - which is fine.. this kind of car is surely more about looking cool than balls-out driving.

I think it looks great. I particularly like the shape of the rear wings - reminds me of the old Volkswagen Karmann-Ghias....

Those rear arches. Such a shame it's a front driver. Just looks like it should have the rears spinning (much like the A5).

Please Peugeot remember the 205, 309, 306, 405, 406. You really did nail it once. If this car can drive with the same "drive of your life" then you will tempt me.

Some may say that I now might need to be called drivenonallfoursplease, but most, if not all, won't care.

Looks good, and should be good to drive considering the 3008 has been tipped as 'the best Peugeot to drive for a while'. So hopefully this will follow in its footsteps but obviously be more sporty. It has felt like it's been a long time coming, but at least it isn't being consigned to the 'put on hold' bin!

A missed opportunity - a proper Coupe is RWD. Why couldn't Peugeot have bitten the bullet and gone for a RWD? How boring - 218BHP through the front wheels. Yawn, wake me up.....

Looks nice but probably with limited capability.  Starting at 20K I think it will be too expensive compared to a base TT @ 25K and Scirocco @19K both of these will have better ineriors, quality, residuals, kudos, power etc.

The right entry level price would be arround 15K. If modern peugeots are anything to go by the interior will be poor, the performance lacking (due to weight) and the handling dire,  suitable only for weomen or people not interested in driving.

If they bring back the handing of the days of 405 (went down hill from then apart from looks, 406 drove no wher near as nice) it will be good, but I can't see that happening. The 405,205,309 showed that Peugeot could make a well balanced front drive - if you like that sort of thing.
