  • Saab 9-5: The inside story

    Jun 08, 2009 10:44 AM

By the time the new 9-5 is launched, Saab will have waited 13 years to replace the original version of the car. Saab had a new 9-5 for launch in 2005, based on the ‘Premium’ platform (used on the Alfa 159), which was engineered by Saab. But when GM and Fiat ended their partnership, GM insisted that Saab shelve the car.

So next year’s 9-5 (due on sale next Spring) is all new. Although it shares the Insignia’s Epsilon 2 platform, it has a 100mm longer wheelbase, most of which is used to imp...Read the full article

This looks truly desirable as a vehicle.  If it posses the talent of the Insignia then they will be on to a winner.

GM are really missing a trick here though.  For those people that won't buy GM's excellent Insignia because of the Vauxhall / Opel badge could have been pointed in the direction of the 9-5.

I really do wish SAAB well, who ever they end up being owned by.

    It's all about the twisties....

"Truly desirable"?  Are you having a laugh?  It follows in the line of all Saabs - ugly.  Pity the Swedes can't make cars like their girls.

Does anyone know where Prince Charles got all those medals he wears?

SAAB are still lacking in commonsense, they should have brought out a new 9-3 before the too large 9-5 which will have limited sales appeal. As a former Saab enthusiast 4 900 Classics I hope a new 9-3 arrives before they go bust again. All Saabs after 1993 are complete rubbish starting with the disastrous collaboration with Lancia & GM
