  • BMW 5-series GT breaks cover

    May 21, 2009 5:49 PM

These are the first official pictures of the production version of the BMW 5-series GT.

They have leaked onto the internet ahead of the car's official unveiling this Sunday, and show that the exterior of the production car is extremely similar to the concept car's, which was originally unveiled at this year's Geneva motor show. Styling tweaks are limited to minor details such as the door mirrors and alloy wheel design.

From the pictures on here, the only word I can come up with is "ill-proportioned"!

    It's all about the twisties....

I think it looks good!!! just the rear of the car looks a tad strange.

If they changed the boot design that wouldbe a brilliant car!!!

Argh - the back and rear three-quarters are horrendous. Looks too much like a bloated 1-Series...

Is this what they call "diluting the brand" ?

It's not terrible (some people always tend to negatively overreact to anything new in the market), but I'm not sold on this. I don't see what it can do that the 5-series estate cannot already do better.

Very handsome - and the interior mood lighting looks really cool.

    Overdrive:
I don't see what it can do that the 5-series estate cannot already do better.

Indeed, now the R-Class is a disgusting and ugly bloated piece of crap but it can do something that the E-Class estate can't, i.e. carry 6, 7 or 8 people in proper full size seats.

This massive, ugly, bloated, heavy waste of space seats 5, with a tailgate nicked from a Skoda and is neither a car, nor a 4x4, nor an MPV.  Cheers BMW for the answer to a question nobody asked.  Like the X6.

But it just goes to show that the BMW brand is more powerful in my opinion than Mercedes as junk like the R-Class has been shunned and yet BMW will no doubt sell more of these pointless heaps than they do 7 Series which I find very strange.

    No accounting for taste.

The rear reminds me of a Ssangyong something-or-other, and that's in no way a good thing.

I really don't like the way this car looks, but worse than that is the angle of which the rear window is positioned.  Is the driver actually supposed to be able to see through that window?
