    May 12, 2009 4:56 AM

These are the best pictures yet of the all-new Saab 9-5.

Despite the fact the Swedish carmaker is currently under Swedish bankruptcy protection, the Saab 9-5 is on schedule to be sold by early summer.

The big saloon is being finalised for production after an anticipated debut at the Frankfurt show this September.

The new 9-5 is based on the same GM Epsilon II chassis as the Vauxhall Insignia, although the styling inside and out is unique.

The new 9-5 will have a range...Read the full article

To me I see overtones of 5-Series in the rear end. I hope that there is a return to the SAAB individuality...

    Can't make up my mind

I wish them well for one and just hope that GM have the dignity to support whoever purchases SAAB with regards to the various pieces of hardware they need to produce this car.

    It's all about the twisties....

This 9-5 might never see the light of day if GM  / GME's new owner pull the chassis & engines.

Can't get enough of that Volkswagen and Audi stuff...

I'm not sure a new SAAB owner can pull the plug on shared components. The further thought would be, that it would be suicidal as the 9-5 is practically production ready meaning more wasted money. Common sense should prevail that any new owner will use GM's 5 year Technology sharing contract and slowly move onto new architectures as and when. Personally I'm rooting for the party that Koenigsegg are apart of and not Geely or Fiat. I believe that such a tie up would help Koenigsegg produce a performance/Luxury GT and SAAB would have an owner genuinely interested in preserving the Swedish heritage. This is the same group that the Norwegian government are also involved in who see Trollhattan as a good production facility to drive forward THink! (the electric vehicle manufacturer) SAAB have their own patented Hybrid propulsion system and do not need to rely on GM for that technology. Placing that in THink! vehicles along with SAABs and Koenigsegg performance cars would pay big dividends in cost sharing.
