 will it cost less to purchase than a petrol fuelled version?

no vehicle is an true economy vehicle for as long as it costs more cash to buy upfront than a petrol model.

Couldn't it just put them where the petrol tank used to be?

I agree with beachland that Renault have GOT to price it right.  If it does, and it looks as funky as this then I will give Renault my word that I will buy one.  Pity that we can't buy them right now.

Of course it will cost more up front, new technology always does. You have to remember the total cost of ownership will be offset by the fact that you will not have to buy diesel or petrol to power it. Overall maintenance will probably be lower also.

running cost including upfront cost is next. even this is likey to be more than the cost of fossil fuelled option.

who cares if its latest eco technology? that means zero if it costs more.
