  • Seat sets fuel world record

    May 06, 2009 12:27 PM

A Seat Ibiza has set an average fuel consumption record for its class, returning 81.1mpg and covering 970.6 miles on a single tank of fuel.

Former rally driver Gerhard Plattner left the Martorell facilities near Barcelona with the Ibiza Ecomotive’s bonnet and fuel tank filling mouth sealed.

The Austrian travelled through France and entered Germany at cruising speeds just shy of 70mph, before arriving at the pre-determined finishing point in Frankfurt with fuel still in the tank. Read the full article

    Well done Seat!

Marketing exercise or not, this is an impressive figure that just goes to prove that Petrol / Diesel propulsion shouldn't be written off just yet!

Wonder what a Prius would have returned over the same route?

    It's all about the twisties....

Well done to Seat, but they are late to the party.

Ford in America has just gone 1,445.7 miles on a single tank of PETROL in their Ford Fusion Hybrid. That is an average of 81.5mpg from a 17.5 gallon tank.

    Better luck next time Seat!

    Quite an achievement

My Fortwo CDI will regulary hit in excess of 90mpg on a motorway run but I have to cruise around 50 - 55mph to return that sort of economy. My best was a shade under 100mpg on a run from Liverpool to Nottingham. To slow/ borring a journey to be done regularly at that speed!

How many road rage incidents followed the trail of the Ford and The Seat!

    Just kidding :)

The rally driver involved must have been bored to tears!

Can't get enough of that Volkswagen and Audi stuff...

Article says it set the best record in its class. A petrol hybrid would be another class (plus there is a 21 litre tank size difference)

the key is that he did it at 70 ish mph, unlike the 25 mph of the ford or I assume the trip in the smart.
