  • Students design the cars of 2049

    Apr 28, 2009 4:50 PM

Students from the UK's foremost vehicle design course at the Royal College of Art in London have taken the wraps off their impressions of the cars of the future.

The designs, entered into a GM-sponsored competition called Fast Forward 40 Years, are the young designers' visions of the cars of 2049. They are designed to celebrate 40 years of the RCA's vehicle design course.

The winners of the competition will be announced in a few days' time.

Whoa, that's a bit far into the future here. If this goes ahead by the time it is 2049 the design could be out of date!

A bit ironic that probably GM isn't going to be around for the next 40 weeks by the sound of things, so 40 years definitely seems optimistic. Presumably they agreed to sponsor this some time ago.

Can I suggest more study and less smoking weed.

If you haven't driven a particular car don't say you have just to prove a point. It doesn't fool anybody and is bloody annoying.

Lmao. If you look at concepts from arouond 50 years ago people thought that cars would be able to do a lot more than they can today. I think it will be the same thing with this. The concepts are space age. :D

    I'm surprised there wasn't a teleportation device.

Pointless guff with no consideration for, well... anything really.

But then again didn't the former head of the RCA transport design course come up with the Ssangyong Rodius?

I dunno, I can see me "driving" one of those. Mind you, if they put a Vauxhall grill on them they can forget it.

Looks like a few pieces of scrap metal all thrown together by some 10 year old kid...
