  • Police in alternative fuel pledge

    Half of London’s police cars could be either electric or air-powered within four years, Scotland Yard has announced.

    As part of the plans, the Met would look to replace old cars with alternative fuel models in a bid to reduce CO2 emissions in the capital.

    London police are already testing electric Smart cars and there are proposals to trial vehicles run on compressed air.

    Certainly makes sense, although I can hear the cynical now suggesting the criminals will out run Police in a car chase!

    Good publicity for London Plod just at a time of many embarrassing and potentially criminal investigations into them. Hang on, don't suppose this press release came out coincidentally?

    New London Plod motto: 'we're up for a bit of truncheoning but our motors are green'. Whaddya say Boris?

    I just had a sort of Amsterdam type image in my head of two plod turning up in their 2 seater Eco solar powered Smart car, arresting some low life mugger, then giving him his Eco bus fare and asking him to make his own way to Oxford street nick if he would be so kind.

    lunch means driving one handed.

    I'm not sure it's possible to have a car chase around central London any more, more like a slow motion procession.
