  • The top ten warranty claims

    Apr 23, 2009 1:48 PM

Electrical faults dominate the list of warranty claims being made on modern cars, according to a new report.

The list, compiled by warranty firm Mondial Assistance, shows that none of the top 10 warranty claims are now mechanical problems.

In particular, air-conditioning claims have tumbled.

"Back in 2000, air conditioning was still considered a luxury item fitted to luxury cars but today it’s pretty much standard fit and as such becomes an item that’s tried, tested and deve...Read the full article

Number 8 is worrying! A kiss with a curb perhaps?

"The list, compiled by warranty firm Mondial Assistance, shows that none of the top 10 warranty claims are now mechanical problems."

    "3. Leaking radiator

    8. Front wishbone mounting torn and broken

    9. Throttle valve housing"

What is the definition of 'mechanical problem'? Those three sound pretty mechanical to me.

It's also interesting to note that the electrical items on the list are for the most part hardly what would be called 'high-tech'. You'd think that after all this time, manufacturers would have worked out how to make a reliable brake light switch or electric fan.

    Fault list?

I thought it read like a 'feature' list of a typical Renault!

More likely just a quite trip to the shops on the *** that passes for roads in 21st century Britain. That should be enough to do it. I'm surprised that suspension problems isn't higher up the list.

If you haven't driven a particular car don't say you have just to prove a point. It doesn't fool anybody and is bloody annoying.

    Or any French car!

never mind the quality, our buyers can source this switch 0.001 cents cheaper, so we're going for the cheap one.

I would have thought that the dampers would probably start to go wonky first, then the joints start to clang with increased play, but torn clean off? Gives me the shivers...
