  • Veyron Centenaire images leaked

    Apr 23, 2009 12:39 PM

Bugatti may create one of the world’s most exotic cars - but that hasn’t stopped it creating a few limited editions towards the end of the Veyron’s life.

These are said to be images of the Veyron Centenaire, leaked ahead of the car’s unveiling at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este tomorrow in Italy. You can see the fully gallery by clicking on 'More pics' above.

The Centenaires have been made to commemorate the racing careers of Grand Prix drivers Malcolm Campbell, Jean-Pierre Wi...Read the full article

'The main visual change from the standard Veyron is alloy wheels inspired by those on the Bugatti Type 35.'

Interesting that Audi copied the Type 35 wheels a long time ago for the TT, and subsequent models. Now, under VAG ownership, Bugatti use them again on the Veyron - albeit closer in design detail to the original - though somewhat wider I suspect!

The wheels are a classic design and one of the most striking visual features on the Type 35.

Nope, still does nothing for me.  Never has done and dare I say it, probably never will do.

It's still an over engineered, under achieving irrelevance.  The McLaren F1 is still king in my books.

    It's all about the twisties....

I'd agree - always a bit too fat, a bit too soft GT for me - give me a Zonda F out of the current crop of supercars anyday.

Can't get enough of that Volkswagen and Audi stuff...

TegTypeR, emmm I don’t agree with this comment, it is over engineered because it shows what cars are capable of and there potential, would you call the Concorde an irrelevance? I don’t think so. These types of cars and machines are made to show what is possible and how far the industry has come, the Veryon does a great job of showing how far technology has come.

Well, I think this is all very exciting... I can have my old (out of date) Veyron scrapped, and make a good £2,000 saving on a brand new special edition one.

That makes it a mere £1,398,000. Bargain.

Fundamentally, the Veyron doesn't do anything new, the technology used is more or less just a "beefed up" standard car.  For instance the gear box is effectively the same as found in a TT, although with more reinforcement.  The engine is a V engine that has been doubled up on.  The cooling system is nothing special, it's exactly the same as every other car, just with more radiators.  Yes, there may be one or two unique pieces, but nothing that moves the motoring game on.

Overall, it's heavy, not very efficient and a complete irrelevance.  There is no comparison to Concorde.  If you were going to compare the Veryon with a plane it would be a 747 with eight engines and a fuselage made out of RSJ's.  It is a sledge hammer to crack a nut.

If any more proof were needed, look at its lap time around the TG test track.

I can admire the Veyron for what it does, it is a great achievement that someone has managed to produce a car that can do what it can do but in reality, it is nothing special.

I suppose it's a good bye present that Bugatti are giving us, it's been a brilliant car and always will be!

Aren't we missing the point? Isn't this just another chance to fleece some (lots) more money for something that is basically exactly the same as the 'normal' Veyron. Wow different wheels Cool!

And yes Teg I would have agreed with you until I got to ba a passenger in one in Dubai recently. It's mid-range acceleration (110 to 240 km/h - if us mere mortals can describe that as mid-range) in my opinion excuses most of it's lard-arsed irrevelancies...

    Can't make up my mind

I understand your points, but to produce a car which makes with near as dammit 1000bhp so usable is a hell of an achievement in my book. And it depends what you mean by "efficient". No , it not efficient in terms of fuel consumption, value etc. However, in the sense of being able to put such colossal power down so competently and still being relatively a dodle to drive in normal traffic speeds this car is crushingly efficient.

In final analysis, let's remember at the end of the day Veyron is supposed to be a showcase. A symbol of what is possible and what top class engineering (with adequate funding ) can achieve.
