    The combined pensions liability of Jaguar and Land Rover stood at less than £200 million last year, Autocar has learned. That figure has continued to decrease this year, and contrary to reports published today in the Financial Times, is nowhere near large enough to significantly outweigh the value of the sale of either company for parent Ford.

    So surely the pensions issue is alluding to a wider issue here. Ford is flogging its crown jewels so it can shore up its US pension funds? Is this where the real deficit lies? I have read previously about how US pension funds are in dire straits. It seems the truth has been revealed after all. How gratifying that Ford has flogged AM/J/LR to prop up its gargantuan folly of a car business in the states. They should have binned mainstream US Ford cars, built or imported the european models only and concentrated on flogging some chunky looking pickups. Politics won't allow that of course.
