  • The original Porsche 928

Work on Porsche's original 928 coupe began as far back as the late 1960s, as the firm tried to come up with a package to replace the 911.

Back then, many in Porsche felt that the 911 could fall foul of US legislation on safety and emissions.

Hope it works out - I had a 928 GTS and it was, in my opinion, the ultimate continent crusher.

Judging by the lukewarm reception the latest (over) refinement of the 911, maybe now is the time for a new Grand Tourer to replace the old war horse.  Then they could knock out a version of the Cayman with 400hp, semi stripped interior, rollcage and carbon ceramics as standard...  That's just me then is it?

No, it's not just you.  I think Porsche will have to re-appraise it's model line up soon, and I vote for the Cayman, or a derivation of it, to become its new Uber car.

As for the 928, I have nearly bought one on a couple of occasions.  Last time was a couple of years ago when I was offered a white GTS manual for £10k.  Why oh why didn't I take it!!

    It's all about the twisties....
