  • Brilliance goes electric

Brilliance has unveiled an ambitious electric concept at the Shanghai motor show.

Despite having very little experience in the world of electric vehicles, the Chinese car maker has created the bold-looking Brilliance EV, which has two motors.

The EV is a one-box design with a hint of the Volkswagen Up! concept and seats four.

It is powered by lithium-ion batteries and can run on one or two motors. The first motor, which has 30bhp and 44 lb ft of torque, allows the EV to tra...Read the full article

the rendering makes it appear people carrier sized, not the compact hatch it actually is. Defnitely a huge dollop of VW about the nose too.

Well I'm not sure.  One of these days a company is going to surprise us all by actually manufacturing the concept on display!  It won't be Vauxhall after that Antara debacle, nor Skoda after having a cracking-looking Yeti - then making a Renault Kangoo look-a-like!

I don't think that electric is a all round winner because you have charge it up which can take hours unlike petrol and diesel cars which take minutes. This is inconvenient because I would have to plan when I use the car. It is cheaper, but I don't think that it saves the environment as well. All the power comes from a plug, and the power from that comes from a power station. So I don't think that this car will impress people as much in the UK as it will in China, where it is so polluted in big cities.
