  • Citroën C6 2.7 HDi V6 Exclusive

Relax and look beyond the obvious. That’s what Citroën would like you to do with the new C6. It’s the latest in a long line of big Citroëns, but it has been a while since the marque’s last, the XM of 1989-2000 (excluding the substantial C5). It seems Citroën isn’t keen to stress the C6 as the XM’s spiritual replacement. Instead, it claims the inspiration for the C6 are ‘great’ Citroëns such as the SM, CX and DS.

Nevertheless, the thinking behind the C6 remains similar to that of the XM –...Read the full article

How much does one of these go (with average miles) on the 2nd hand market nowadays?

In mid-August (09) I bought an 18 month old Wicked red C6 2.7Hdi Lignage in perfect condition with 12,000 miles on the clock for around £15k. A brilliant saving on the £32k + original cost and not unexpected by all the critics when the car was launched. It's turned out to be just as expected in terms of comfort, (relative) economy at 32.5mpg over the last 300 or 400 urban miles which compares very favourably with a Volvo C30 2.0 SE I had before.

It really is a marvellous way to travel, and although critics suggested the Hydractive suspension didn't cope with low-speed urban roads, I guess it's all relative because, to me, the ride is sublime. Motorway work is silent, swift and very impressive although that urge to "press on" seems to have left me as it's all so relaxing and laid-back.

The only time the engine sounds like a diesel is if the doors are open when it first starts from cold. Close the door, and all is peace and quiet with it pulling strongly straight from the off.

I managed to find a red C6 which to my mind is so much more attractive than the generally sombre black or the more common silver examples. Unfortunately, I had to make-do with a black interior as the cream one only comes in the Exclusive trim which was £1,500 to £2,000 more.

Brilliant car for the used buyer.

    I had a C6 a short while back.

It's a flawed but fine car, particularly if you value comfort and uniqueness in a sea of uncomfortable, same looking German cars. However, the C5 rides better - as a ride nazi this was an important part in our parting company - and it's neither as fast nor as economical as its rivals. The tax bracket is an embarrassment.

When all is said and done it's a good, modern, capable car. The new, punchier, super clean 3.0 replacement should depress 2.7 prices still further, making it an even better buy.
