  • Renault Laguna 2.0 dCi 150

No question about it, the Laguna’s interior is its biggest strength. The level of equipment in here is excellent, and the style and finish of what’s inside equally good. From the flamboyant but classy looking dash to the soft touch satin material used to trim that dash and, in the Dynamique S’s case, the part-suede, part-leather front seats, this is a car aimed at the fleet market that has a genuine touch of luxury to it.

But it has flaws, and one of them is the infuriating digitised ...Read the full article

    I can't understand why a car magazine comments on a car's looks.

Indeed it is as subjective as it can be.

I would never have a Laguna because no matter what, I don't trust it's mechanics.

As high as they might aim for reliability, they can keep on dreaming of reaching Accord-levels. They never will.

Yet I personally find the Laguna stylish whereas the Mondeo just isn't.

But it's of no relevance for a journalist judging a car, whether he or she personally likes the looks or not.

in a way the new laguna is very like the new peugeot 308. they both aren't going to really set the world alight, and they are more like extreme facelifts rather than all new models. but the interiors are both outstanding, with new levels of quality that are simply unbelievable for such cars. i just hope that both manufacturers have sorted out the reliability with their predecessors.

If only Renault could "borrow" Martin Smith for a few days they might be able to break away from their frumpy, out-dated styling cues.

Modern cars are now so good mechanically that the main differentiator is "looks".  Unfortunately this is a very subjective commodity and very heavily dependent on the skill and inventiveness of the chief designer.

Martin Smith is, imho, a genious who has made an immediate impact at Ford and dragged mass market styling cues up to a new level, well above the current norm.
