  • Infiniti: the next five years

    Mar 28, 2009 7:20 AM

A Mercedes S-class-sized limousine, a new all-wheel-drive seven-seat SUV and an all-electric entry-level model are in the pipeline for growing Japanese premium car maker Infiniti.

    2010: an all-new ‘M’-badged 5-series-chaser

Next year, we’ll see the introduction of the Japanese firm’s all-new ‘M’-badged mid-size executive saloon.

This car will be engineered to accept Infiniti’s 3.7-litre V6 petrol engine, and its forthcoming 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel – although both the ...Read the full article

    Interesting stuff!

However we have seen similar statements from the Japanese luxury lines before and they have not materialised, two examples being the new NSX which was supposed to be badged as an Acura and the Lexus LFA which seems to have been in development for so long that it may be dated before it ever appears!

Ironically the European arrival of Infiniti may not be too bad in terms of timing should all these plans materialise, they aim to take things slow and that may be the period where recovery takes place?

I visited their stand at the Geneva show recently and there was a lot of interest - a good sign for the future?

So the luxo barge, the school run tank and the overweight boy racers toy are all definite, but the small electric vehicle is only a possibility, and only then 'beyond 2012'. Does Lexus know something about the world economy that we don't? On the one hand, it's good that they're not looking for US Govt funding, but on the other, I note how good the Japanese have been at long-term planning. Perhaps when the US manufacturers are all producing hybrids, and the recession is long forgotton, will it be Lexus that mops up all that pent-up US demand for luxotanks?

I am not sure about the future, although for sure it will be interesting but.. They just introduced G37 last year in Europe and now it is comming here, but wait, still it is not here yet. Then you read all the information about delays, and it is still not here. Then all the sudden you are finding out that all new G37 is under the project.  So maybe let's skip all the 2009 launching, wait til 2012 and start all over from the brand new model G37. Great strategy and marketing "guys".

There is a lot to talk about, can not decide so Infiniti is going to pull out the full line of petrol engines (performace is great, five stars here), hold on, full line of hybrid cars, but hold on, diesel engines are comming and all electric cars. We are missing something, yes, fuel cells hydrogen????? To me it looks like a lot of confusion and uncertainty without a clue what to do next. Another example of a great strategy and long term planning.

    But here comes the katharsis..

It is enough to go out, put myself behind the wheel of my Infinity, turn it on and it all goes away. Yes, when we talk about the product, Infiniti it is a remarkable car, all what is promissed. Performance is unbeatable. Comfort is astonishing. Power is under control. And I am not talking about rubber-burning.

I would stick to petrol engine line up. It just gives the most of it. That is how Infiniti became Infiniti in it's first place.

Here it is, what a find!?

The first line of G35's and I wish it all the best in the future.
