Potential buyers of the Ford Focus RS are being warned that they won't get a car until at least September, due to massive demand.

Ford has been inundated with deposits for the Focus RS since it was first displayed at last year's British Motor Show.

In total, 4000 Focus RSs will be sold in the UK, with 8000 being made overall.

Why do they only build the Focus RS in limited numbers, unlike the Sierra Sapphire Cosworth of the 1980's? Surely it could stand as an additional member of the Ford range in continuous production for buyers who like the RS, but aren't over keen on the sanitary towel, sorry ST.

Ford have not limited numbers but they are limited by production capacity over the next 18 months.

Let me get this story straight. Since Ford are making lots of cars nobody wants to buy, they have slashed production, but when they release a car people really do want, they respond by... making them wait 6 months for delivery!

I bet Toyota have customer service rather higher up the priority list.

 Excellent news for the home industry. It's being built at Ford's British factory in Saarlouis.

I am not expert, I am sure a lot of people here know more then me about this subject.  The RS is not like a standard Focus or even like the ST.  The RS has a wider track, different body parts and special suspension components and a modified 2.5l ST engine.  I asusme the production scaling for all these takes time and specially trained staff are needed for assembly etc.  Personally, I prefer to have my RS made properly and not in a rush.

Hopefully none.  I can't believe there are still people out there that would bother doing that!

Now Citroen, take note.  Create a Leob C4 in the same vein, and look how much interest you could have in your products!

Perhaps with the prospect of being sold to the Yin Lang Diddle Aye Po motor company of China (or whatever) hanging over their heads, Volvo are on a go slow supplying engines.
