  • Dacia UK launch could be back on

    Mar 23, 2009 11:53 AM

Dacia could be launched in the UK “within months” if the government gives the green light to a pay-to-scrap scheme.

Renault bosses, who cancelled the UK launch of their budget brand’s Dacia Sandero hatchback last summer, are keeping a close eye on the British government’s moves towards adopting a similar scheme to the one that is being credited with driving new car sales in Germany.

This could involve drivers getting up to £2000 off the price of a new car if they trade in a car ove...Read the full article

    Cheeky B******s!

They decide they want to lunch their product here now that there is the chance to load up with money from British Tax Payers that will find it's way into foreign hands!! We have quite simply got to be the biggest mugs in the world!

I see your point, ZM. But you can't really blame Renault for taking advantage of this situation - every manufacturer has to fight for its sales right now, and it could be budget brands like Dacia that end up benefiting the most from any scrappage scheme. If that means the company uses Dacia to help reduce (even if only in a small way) the collapse in Renault Group sales in the UK, you've got to admire their ingenuity. Perhaps.

As for the Brits being the biggest mugs in the world... well, you could be right. But Renault can't be blamed for making the most of any official legislation.

If as is reported, the Tata Nano is going to be around the same price, were I in this market, I know which I would buy.

The majority of car buyers in the country are, I suspect, not enthusiasts and are merely looking for a mode of transport.

Does anyone know what the German scheme has done to the value of the existing second hand cars? I cant see how it can do anything but knock thousands off them too. Thats great. The government have suceeded in devaluing larger cars by thousands by high road tax to be introduced retrospectively, and now smaller cars are to be equally savaged by this scheme. So if you own a newish car already you will lose big time!

On the contrary, I think it could cause values of used cars at the lower price range to increase, because a large chunk of cars (some of which will actually be quite reasonable motors) will disappear, so the buyer with just £500 - £2000 to spend will be faced with a smaller choice of stock to choose from. Afterall not everyone will want to buy a brand new / nearly new car, scrappage scheme or not. What gets me about scrappage is the thought of cars like 8/9/10 year old Audi A4's/Merc's etc being scrapped!! Utter madness and a total waste in my opinion, as I would hardly class these cars as old, middle aged perhaps.

Pty the Nano isn't being released in the UK right now at its current Indian price - you could get a new car free with a little cash back off the government!

Here's an idea.....can we place advance orders on the "Clan" using the scappage scheme??....can Autocar find out....i.e. Clan might say the first 1000 orders at price X with the scappage scheme......it could give Clan a head start??

If Renualt can take advantage....why cannot Clan? (but not sure if its within the rules of the scrappage scheme....good if it was though!!)...the £2K could be the deposite.....Autocar please investigate!!
