Here’s proof that the motoring future isn’t as bleak as the doomsayers suggest. The Mitsubishi i proves that it is possible to build an innovative city car capable of combining modern safety standards, ultra-low emissions and design that doesn’t make you think of fridge freezers.

Despite being built to the same restrictive Japanese ‘Kei’ car regulations responsible for tinny, boxy offerings such as the Suzuki Wagon R, the i is a far more advanced proposition, certainly the closest th...Read the full article

Two things have spoilt my enjoyment of my new i - terrible fuel consumption and very limited radio.  My average mpg having driven it 2800 miles in ONLY 37.03 MPG!  I have written to Mitsubishi but they are just not interested - they just said the quoted consumption figure of 54mpg is a guide and not to be taken literally.  Can I take this further?  My gripe about the radio is that it skips from 90 to 92 FM thereby restricting the stations I can tune to.

NOP. Can this not be taken further under the trade descriptions act? i.e. the car is not fit for purpose as described in the literature.

I have completed 4,000 miles in an 'i-car' and reckon it achieves around 47 - 48 mpg on mixed driving  with the right approach. Yes, it's a shame that Mitsubishi UK haven't put more effort into delivering their promised radio update to European band width, but it's only a small frequency gap and a relatively minor niggle in what has proven to be an exceptionaly reliable motor in my own experience over a year. As far as I'm concerned, it does what it says on the tin.
