    Mar 16, 2009 5:40 PM

Although Mini sources stopped short of confirming such a model is in the product plan, saying only that 'performance' versions were already testing at the Nurburgring, the SUV will be launched next year and it’s likely a JCW model will appear either towards the end of 2010 or early 2011.

This thing's a complete PoS - it makes the Lagonda concept look good.

Is it not a bit early for April Fool's Day?

I'd imagine this car will bring with it a whole new level of hatred for the people who drive it.

I think it is one of the worst cars I have ever seen; check out also the autoexpress site re. other Minis planned; the one shown also looks bad.

Have BMW totally lost the plot now?

    I think it's a brilliant idea.

The MINI should be revered in all it's majesty and forms.

All other small cars should bow and scrape in it's presence, now they will be forced to. They should beg to share the same road as the Mighty MINI and indeed be forced to.

The old days are gone. The MINI is back on top. All praise the MINI!

Must go, my singing potatos need some attention.

So ugly, it makes the BMW X6 seem lust-worthy (in fact, it looks like something the X6 has defecated).

Alec Issigonis would throw up if he was alive to see this.

It reminds me of the odd looking cars they sell in Japan, almost comic book like. I bet the Japanese will lap them up, nobody else will though. Not unless they are on mind bending drugs anyway.

    TegTypeR:

    Why?

Because BMW needs to see more of the Mini brand to make the front drive floorplan financially viable in the long run and even if this thing sells well it will be a hard slog and might not be enough.

One might reasonably say that the styling is all wrong (which is a fair enough argument), but let's get away from this romantic notion that the BMW (or other makes for that matter) should limit themselves to a few models of iconic brands like the Mini just to satisfy the purists. Those days are long gone.

Car companies are fighting for their lives and they NEED to sell cars to survive. Whether your think this particular model is/isn't gonna sell, the reality remains that the likes of BMW need to expand their range to make it.
