  • Help to name Alfa’s new ‘Junior'

    Nov 02, 2007 4:05 PM

We’re all for a bit of democracy here at Autocar. That why the news that Alfa Romeo isn’t spending a five figure sum on a focus group scheme to decide the name of its new Mini-rivalling supermini came as a welcome surprise.
Instead, it's allowing the general public to decide what its new upmarket hatchback, hitherto referred to as the Junior, will be called. And you can have a say.
Last month, Alfa Romeo opened the contest to all of Italy, France, Spain, Germany, England and Japan, and cha...Read the full article

Surely there can only be one name.

    Alfasud.

Never let a fact get in the way of an opinion!

Alfasud would be the name to chose, however given the current theme within Alfa Romeo, how about numbering it 139?

Its difficult for us, I hate the numbers things with Alfas, but it needs to be Italian. Fiat has Cinquecento for the 500 which is  great name. It needs to be an Italian word but if they come up with another like Brera I think it will be  a shame. Sud is a great idea but it will have to handle well to deserve that monicer.

Out of the 12 names to choose from 'Nevo' is definitely out, Portugese for 'I snow'!?!         Sticking with Portugese 'Fira' means 'it wounds'. Don't really know what they're trying to say here??    What's wrong with 'GT Junior'? Conjures up classic Alfas which were small, good looking, and sporty.

I'm not overtly convinced by all of Alfa's suggestions, though Fira and Ventura are the better ones. I reckon though that the Alfa's supermini should be called Sprint.

I have a deep affection for a nation that covets Lamborghini, Ferrarri and Alfa Romeo. The food is also the best in Europe!

A true nation with more classical taste and design, than anyone else can shake a ****** stick at!!

    Let them decide.

Perhaps we should let them know that Milo is a hot milky drink in Australia and New Zealand, rather like Ovaltine. Maybe not quite the image they would like?

I don't like any of the suggested names but if it can't be 'AlfaSud' (maybe they're holding it back for the 147 replacement), then why not retain 'Junior' - it's cheeky, it's apt and it has heritage Shoot the PR department and listen to us elderly Alfanistas ;)>

The Gav, having posted first and thought later (not the best way round I've often thought), I too think that Junior is an apt name for the car. Whatever name is given, at least it will look the part and hopefully drive as well!
