  • Chevrolet Spark breaks cover

Chevrolet has unveiled the production version of its Spark city car at the Geneva show.

In its final production form, the Chevrolet Spark has been toned down from the chunky concept displayed at the Detroit show in January, but the chunky, angular styling and bold grille and headlights have been carried over unchanged.

Looks okay, and the interior is refreshingly different, but let's see if they've managed to carry the good work across to the chassis.

Afterall, the way GM are going, if they get rid of Vauxhall / Opel, this may be their only European small car competitor.

    It's all about the twisties....

Agree - the first thing I thought of though was 'how much is that headlamp going to cost....'

Yep that headlight does seem to run the entire length of the bonnet - likely to be the first thing that goes in even a minor bump...

More than a hint of Citroen C2 VTR in there styling and packaging wise, but a good looking little car nonetheless, and one that would sell over here.

I think the 'Spark' name is a bit misleading with the electricity reference - living off the reflected glory of the Volt without having a single thing to do with the electric hybrid system - surely GM must be working to get that into virtually every model as soon as possible if it wants to survive?

Not a bad looking beast. I'd think both Toyota and Ford will be keeping an eye on it's development (smacks of both Yaris and new Fiesta), but am all for Chevvy to sort out their game a bit in the euro market.

There's no reason why the yanks can't compete here, except perhaps brand perception and the differing angles that cars are aimed at over here. We 'want' economy and sportiness; yank market's all about cosseting ride and big engines (historically at least).

This is a wonderful opinion. The things mentioned are unanimous and needs to be appreciated by everyone.

Good point, but it's never going to touch the Focus in that respect... it just looks ludicrously blocky though.

What are you talking about Focus for? This is a city car. Where are all these idiotic random posts coming from.

Is this an attempt by a certain rival car magazine to sabotage this forum I wonder? Conspiracy theorists form an orderly queue here.

do or do not. there is no try.

Ha - yes i see your point kerrecoe.

I'm not here to disrupt anything. I meant the Fiesta, not Focus. Is this Chevvy's attempts of copying the more european style though? And is the general theory in the boardroom to stave off recession to go for this city car? It looks more suited to a european city than a big american triple laner despite the electronic fuel injection.

My flippant reference to 'idiotic' posts was more directed at the two previous posts moneymouth, so forgive my rant.

IMO, this spark is an ace little car. This is probably what the Agila or even the Corsa should be more like. If Vauxhall does split from Opel and remain with GM, I reckon this would make a perfectly good Vauxhall-badged replacement for either. I wonder who the existing contract with Suzuki would go to in a split?

do or do not. there is no try.

To be honest, don't know that much about it... I just find it interesting that Chevvy are now focusing on city-cars, what with them now working with Fiat... Also, their stock for the past couple of years has been nothing but poor. I reckon their training to turn their market into the more European, small-scale car with Fiat, rather than keep making their expensive, finanically-unsound (suddenly a very big problem in today's market!) muscle cars.

Run me through what you're saying though, what's this about the Suzuki contract?
