Two and a half stars? Isn't that what the terrible Jeep Cherokee got a few years back?

Is the Mito really the joint-worst car you have ever tested in recent history or is Autocar being a little harsh here?

It made Vicki Butler Henderson squeal with delight when she tested it on 5th Gear, narrowly beating the excellent MINI Cooper around the track for shear enjoyment, so it can't be all that bad..........best looking small sports car on the market both inside and out.

Unfortunately predictable Autocar review. This is not a Ford or a BMW so it has to get panned. The reasons given against it are, as usual, totally subjective - as there are no objective characteristics (power, price, speed, acceleration, interior room, fuel consumption, practicality, features) to complain about.

2 and a half? You're saying the Mito is the worst car in the market? It's hard to belive it... According to this review even a Matiz seems to be more fun to drive.

I agree with the above comments. I think this is a complete joke - the ride is nowhere near as bad as it is made out, and before anyone asks, yes, I have driven one, good enough for me to order one in fact. The ride is much more comfortable than the Mini's, and while the damping may not be perfect, and the gearbox's main problem is how long the stick is. That is what annoys me most about the car, to be honest.

I don't know how Autocar can give a car like the Mito 2.5stars, it is absolutely ridiculous. You can't expect a perfect car in the state Alfa are in, but this car is more than good enough, and never deserved such a low rating, unless you're just doing by the old "It's an Alfa - It's OK until it gets to England, then we hate it".

Go and test drive the Mito if you don't like it, it's flawed but fun and only the Fiat 500Abarth comes anywhere near in terms of which car i'd buy if I did it all again.

Well done, hope you enjoy it.

Haven't Autocar changed their star system recently? 2/half stars now means average rather than relow average like the Jeep test mentioned previously. I haven't driven one so i won't comment further on how accurate that score is.

I would ask does it look bettter in the metal? The front looks slightly odd in photos.

If you haven't driven a particular car don't say you have just to prove a point. It doesn't fool anybody and is bloody annoying.

Having test drove the 1.4TB Veloce some of the points are correct the ride is a little jittery although no more so than a 1 Series on 17" wheels and 16" wheels improve the ride. The steering is a little artifical but overall not that bad, the gearshift is runied by the throw being too long. But was a fun car and stylish no doubt and is just what Alfa needs. Was well made and no rattles or squeaks. Although I have heard early car's are suffering from overactive alarm sensor's but hardly the end of the world as all new car's have a few nigglers during the first year of production.

I like the looks but my wife thinks it looked liked a Dawoo Matiz from the front and hated it. Having seen a couple on the road from the rear bumper could do with being a little lower as the car looks pearched on it's rear wheels. Dealers seem allot aless inept than they use to be was very impressed with the customer service and no pressure sales technique.

That was on a track?! How many mitos are going to be driven on a track?

I came close to buying one of these, deciding against it at the last minute. I think its too expensive for what it is, spec the 155hp petrol version to a decent level and you may as well buy a one year old Brera instead!

It does look great though and I have a feeling as soon as I see one on the road I might wish that I'd bought one. Thats if I ever see one, has anybody actually bought one?!

the driver in front brakes the least..

Well, Autocar has panned 1-series's ride many times (in fact this magazine slaggs off BMWs far more than the impression being given here - just the read the reviews of the latest 7-series). So, in that respect at least, they are being consistent.

However, Fords do seem to get overly favourable write ups (e.g. I cannot fathom how Autocar persists in declaring the Focus as still the best car in its class, when in almost every single area, bar steering, it's bettered by the latest Golf). I've also read Mito tests elsewhere, which have found the car to be somewhat better than Autocar's findings, although perhaps not quite as good as it is being inferred by some here.

A car with 153 bhp will have a firm ride to cope with the power surely?  The Mito is a 'rival' for the Fiat 500 as well as the Mini yet Autocar like the Fiat more why not the Mito as well. Any car which competes with the Mini and is cheaper should get higher than 2.5 stars.

First of all The fifth gear test was pointless and Vicki Butler Henderson is a idiot to test a Mito 1.4 with a turbo against a mini 1.6 NA CONVERITABLE!!! not even the normal hatchback, thats not even fair. A much better test would have been mini copper s normal hatchback vs Mito, but even still the N/A converitable was better around the track the only reason the dumb 5th gear presenter liked it becasue it was worse to drive, and she thought it was slight more exciting emmmm this just shows that fifth gear have no idea how to test cars
