  • Citroen GT supercar is for real

    Mar 03, 2009 9:34 PM

Citroen GT supercar concept is going to make production, the company's product czar Vincent Besson has confirmed.

Originally the GT was only ever going to feature virtually in the video game Gran Turismo 5 but according to Besson the concept's popularity has forced a rethink.

"We are now thinking of a limited run, possibly as many as 20 units," he told Autocar.

Besson wouldn't confirm when the real GTs may emerge or the exact technical specs, he did admit that power for the ...Read the full article

Good move Citroen! This is a glimpse of hope for the old-school, mad Citroen cars. I hope they 'meet' Lotus during the development of this car.

It's a great mad looking car - properly back to the old school when you couldn't see a bloomin thing out of any of the windows and parking was impossible.

I think they'd have been better off putting the Hypnos into production instead as a Halo car that looks amazing and could actually turn a profit.

Seems like everyone has forgotten about the recession at Geneva, or the pressure of losing 35% of new car sales has driven some top execs mad!

Good move, Citroen!! Even if they only make 20, they're sure to all find homes. Would've been good to see Citroen put their own engine in there, but I suppose that would've been even more expensive and time-consuming. But I'm sure a lot of people will be pleased and pleasantly surprised at this decision, and maybe some day it'll show up on the Top Gear track! Looking forward to hearing more from Citroen on when it'll be launched...

OK, so if I'm one of the increasingly few people with large amounts of oney to spend on a supercar, I'm hardly going to want to buy one with a Citroen badge on the nose!

Brilliant, back to the old days of cars like the SM.

How many people said that about the Ford GT?  Still sold out though.

That is just plain idiotic reasoning. Many people said the same about the Honda NSX and the Renault Alpine A610 when they were perfectly great cars but badge snobery got in the way.

I think it's great that Citroen is going to produce the GT, even if it's going to be in small numbers. The fact that a mainstream company will produce such a car in difficult times like this should be celebrated. I just hope they are not going to mess with the outside styling too much and although there's nothing wrong with a Ford or GM sourced V8, I can't help but think that a V10 would have been more appropriate, but this might deem too expensive I presume.

    Bravo Citroen!

Why not the XF-R engine then? They've already got contacts with Jaguar.
