  • Ford Fiesta ST shelved

    Mar 02, 2009 8:39 PM

The hot version of Ford’s critically acclaimed Fiesta supermini has been delayed, and may even never make production.

Ford was expected to have a Fiesta ST ready at some point this year, but it has now confirmed that the car will have to wait until the European car market has recovered from its current slump.

“Now is not the right time for a Fiesta ST,” a company source told Autocar.

“We may have a better opportunity to make the ST later on in the car’s life, when Ford’s di...Read the full article

This is terrible news for Ford and the public because most competitors have a hot hatch version even if they are unlikely to make much a profit on them because they get the publics attention on the model and will help shift more cars which I admit ford right now do not need with the Ford Fiesta but all of there competitors are getting there hot hatches in this price range out for a reason to get the publics attention and also most people are downsizing and I know quite a few do not want to give up a fast car and one that looks special and Ford could get those people easily with the Ford Fiesta ST which sadly Ford will lose out to all the competitors on that one and those hot hatches will help there sales.

This is generally known by the car industry for example the Golf GTI they say they do not sell very many of them but they say something like 25 percent of sales of the lower spec Golfs would not be possible without it.

For the public is bad news because that would be a fantastic car to own and see on the roads.

There goes my plan for having the New Ford Fiesta ST for my next car down the drain.

What should be more of a news story here is the fact that Ford are still three years away from making any significant improvement in their engine line up for the Fester.  Whilst they are acceptable at the moment, if we are going to keep electric motors at bay then Ford need to be concentrating on getting their emissions down quicker.

    It's all about the twisties....

I have to say I'm not that disappointed. I know I was in a minority on this but I found the old Fester ST to be really dull.

Mind you that might have been because I tried it immediately after a week in the glorious Focus ST - one of my all time top twenty cars on the strength of its engine note and power delivery alone.
