This is the first official image of the Tesla S, a new saloon from the electric car manufacturer that's due in 2011.

The all-electric Tesla S is expected to be a rival for the Lexus 450h and the diesel Mercedes E-class, and the scale of the car's flanks, revealed here in the flesh for the first time, would appear to show a car with similar dimensions to those of its likely competitors. Well its definitely a saloon, but there's no way this car is the size of a Lexus 450h - unless the person removing the cover is about 8ft tall !

It looks a much smaller car - more 3 series size, the image suggests like a stretched RX8.

That front end looks similar to pictures I've seen of the Fisker Karma - I wonder who's copying who here. They may have settled their lawsuit but it looks like they are both thinking along the same lines with their low-slung saloons; personally, I think the Fisker is one of the best looking cars I've seen for a long time, their website is well worth a look.
