    Feb 15, 2009 10:34 AM

Audi has revealed this, the new Audi A4 Allroad quattro, only the second new model in the Allroad series since the first Audi A6 Allroad was launched in 1999.

Based on the A4 Avant, the Audi A4 Allroad quattro is expected to go on sale in the UK this summer, with prices kicking off at £29,500. Three engines will be available: one petrol and two diesels.

Hilton, even Our Lord rested on the seventh day.

Couple of corrections may be in order, having read Audi's official press release.

    Autocar:
The 208bhp 2.0-litre TFSI petrol will be the entry-level Audi A4 Allroad quattro; it manages 0-62mph in 6.9sec and should average 29mpg. Next up is the 170bhp 2.0 TDI, which offers an 8.9sec 0-60mph time and 36.8mpg.

Top of the tree is the 237bhp Audi A4 Allroad quattro 3.0 V6 diesel, which is good for 62mph in 6.4sec and an average fuel consumption of 33.2mpg.

According to Audi the 2 liter TFSI should manage 8.1l/100/km or 34.9mpg, the 2 litre TDI 6.4l/100km or 44.1mpg and the 3 litre TDI 7.1l/100km or 39.8mpg.

    Autocar:
The TFSI unit is hooked up to a six-speed manual ’box, while the diesels get a seven-speed dual-clutch system

Not according to Audi. The 2 litre diesel gets the six speed manual box and the 2 litre petrol and 3 litre diesel gets the 7 speed S-tronic box.(it may be different for UK market versus German market but doubt it.)

    Autocar:
The A4 Allroad’s track is 20mm wider than the standard A4’s and it rides on taller springs, but Audi has not yet revealed the ground clearance.

    - yes it has - 180mm, unladen.'Gegenüber dem Audi A4 Avant bringt er eine höhere Bodenfreiheit mit – sie beträgt 180 Millimeter bei unbeladenem Fahrzeug.'

See this as pointless as with all the previous Allroads.

Audi seem to have gone banana's with these daytime running lights, now all the german manufacturers are following them as usual with Audi being at the front of a new fad.

I'm sure the interior will be spot on though...

Honestly.... This was written a few days ago and unless I can't transcribe, the figures are taken directly from the Audi UK press release. The release did not give the ground clearance, either. And the S-tronic box is a dual clutch unit. http://www.audi.co.uk/audi/uk/en2/new_cars/Technology/driveline_suspension/dsg.htm Still, I'll check the release again on the fuel figures. Incidentally, I've got a new blog in mind which I'll put up about 3.00am Monday morning. Fancy being the first to comment......

Hilton, my apologies, I wasn't questioning the source or veracity of your information merely that the fuel consumption figures were too low. Reading the Audi.de press release info. it is clear where the mistake is. The litres per 100km fuel consumption figures have been converted to US mpg not Imp. mpg. So for instance the 8.1 litres per 100km for the 2 litre TFSI is 29.0 US mpg or 34.9 Imp. mpg.(see http://www.tdiclub.com/misc/conversions.html for a handy unit conversion site). So the people at Audi UK appear to have supplied you with equivalent US mpg data for all three engines. How slack is that. It looks like a bollocking of the Audi UK press team is in order. Maybe they might also tell you why Audi Deutschland's press release gave the ground clearance figure, as written up in the German mag websites reports today, and confirmation that the 2 litre diesel gets the S tronic gearbox(unlike the German market where it gets the manual).

    This sounds odd..

the 2.0 petrol is marginally slower than the 3.0 6.9 plays 6.4 not alot rly. And the 2.0 has a worse fuel economy whatever way you look at it with the units

So to me it seems pointless to have the 2.0 as the 3.0 is quicker and more economical or is there another mistake somewhere??? as that dont sound rite

Hmmm...an Octavia 4x4 is possibly (er, definitely) better value than this dumpy looking dullmobile. Apart from the badge. The badge is everything, no? Plus, the Skoda doesn't have these cretinously chavtastic LED daytime lights. Volvo did it 25 years ago (sans LED). They looked crap then, and then look crap now. Really, what the *** are they about?

Ah, good point on the US/Imperial. Will talk to Audi UK. '...confirmation that the 2 litre diesel gets the S tronic gearbox..' we said that... 'The TFSI unit is hooked up to a six-speed manual ’box, while the diesels get a seven-speed dual-clutch system, with wheel-mounted paddle shifters...' didn't we?

They are Audi's signature answer to BMW's 'Rings' as daytime running lights are a legal requirement in some European countries - proved to cut accident rates, so likely to be a legal requirement here eventually.

Back to the Allroad, and it was an obvious and easy niche to fill for Audi, who seem determined to fill all available niches (even ones that aren't really there) although after the 5 Series GT, I don't think thy are the only ones.

Daytime running lights will be mandatory from the year after next in the EU(ECE R48). It is usual for car makers to introduce mandated changes before the deadline. So blame the eurocrats if you must, not the makers. The reason for the Audi-type LED DRLs is power consumption. Having to run lights constantly is an added power drain. The Audi-type LEDs consume about 8W whereas conventional lamps would consume over 100W.

Apparently Honda will be turning out a 4 wheel drive, jacked up, up-spec Accord estate later in the year. With the new 180bhp diesel I would think it an excellent alternative to people that don't have unlimited budgets!
