    Full choke and a wide open throttle were found the best combination for cold starting, which keeps the starter motor busy for several seconds. Once running, the engine is quick to warm up.


    Standing-start acceleration times are within a second of those of the earlier car up to 70mph, but from rest to 90mph took 35.6sec – a full three seconds slower. Top gear maximum speed is slightly lower than before, with a best of just over 100mph, as compared with 105mph.

    Love reading these old road tests from back in the day... fascinating!  Autocar, you should put ALL your old tests online, not just a few... well okay maybe that's a lot, but many more than are currently available at least!

     Oh and on a related topic you should also make your road tests easier to differentiate when searching for them online - the drop downs give no indication of the age of the test or often the model - e.g. it's impossible to know from the drop downs whether an Audi A3 roadtest is on a 3 door, 5 door 'Sportback', convertible... would be nice if they were better labelled.

     Okay, finished whinging!  Sorry... love your work reeeeeally!  ;o)
