  • Diesel Jaguar XK caught testing

    Jan 30, 2009 10:06 PM

Jaguar has a V6 diesel-engined version of its XK sports car in development.

The company has tested the car at the Nürburgring, where Autocar’s spy photographers heard the engine’s diesel rattle.

The Jaguar XK D is powered by the new 272bhp twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 that’s due to be launched in the XF this spring.

Despite putting the engine through its paces on the track, Jaguar has chosen to monitor sales of the new 5.0-litre V8-powered XK before deciding whether to put the X...Read the full article

I agree, launch the XKD ASAP and sell more XK's. New 5.0 litre XK's won't be easy to shift in the present economica lclimate.

     HaHahaha.....

Monitor the sales of the 5.0XK, in the present climate that'll be the easiest job in the world, you can just do it on your fingers. Even if the diesel overtakes the sales of the petrol, doesn't it still mean more sales for Jag. I thought that's what they want.

Setting it aside for a 2011 launch is foolish, the way things are going JLR being still alive in 2011 is highly optimistic. No offence, just my thoughts there.

This car ought to be on sale now.

The beautiful styling of the XK, combined with crushing performance and 42mpg economy would surely be too good to resist, the ugly 635d with it's awkward styling and horrible ride wouldn't stand a chance.

Factor in the usual Jag refinement and ride/handling and you've got a winner.

Suprises me that the launch of XK D hasn't been rolled into the launch of the same engine in the XF and the new V8's in the XK.

......this car should have been out a couple of years ago at least; I think shows how far behind the market JLR actually are.....it does tell a story.

Maybe that is why its in the mess that it is in......JLR has to do some soul searching and look inside itself before its too late (if it has not already gotten past that point).

Totally agree. Did anyone see the Jaguar CEO on Geoff Randall show, SKY News? He actually boasted about the GREEN credentials of the new 5 litre V8. I'm sure he is justly proud of this class -leading new motor, but it is still a bl***y V8. Time to wake up and smell the coffee - BMW did. The new diesel is a potential market leader and is Jag & LR's only hope.

I'll be first in the queue for one when/if it finally comes out.  Come on Jag!
