  • Extreme Bentley for Geneva

    Jan 28, 2009 2:35 AM

Bentley will launch what it calls its "fastest, most powerful production car ever" at the Geneva motor show in March, the company has announced.

The "extreme Bentley", revealed in this official teaser shot, is based on the Continental GT and is and is said to deliver "supercar performance".

It runs on bio-ethanol and is the first part of Bentley's drive to become a leader in using biofuels in the luxury market. Bentley engineers are also working on making the Arnage's venerable 6.7...Read the full article

On first glace, I asked the question "Why?".

But it is good to see a manufacturer dare to be different and try to use alternative fuels to not only reduce emissions and increase fuel economy, but also to raise the performance of their offerings.

Having said that, ethanol is not the answer as it competes with human food sources (corn and sugar cane).

ethanol cars have worse fuel economy than petrol cars. And their exhaust is indeed cleaner but do not produce less CO2.

    Correct.

Plus, its hardly good timing by Bentley to be launching an in-yer-face gas guzzler.

Insane- I saw a nasty incident in Sutton recently where some poor sod in his Bentley drove onto a council estate, silly bugger had his car keyed- his roof slashed and the owner left with a fat lip. Flaunting extreme wealth at this present time is crazy

As with the other posters here I agree that biofuels are a fairly pointless development prospect - why is Bentley spending its money on a publicity stunt like this at a time when R&D funds are being cut back, just simply to produce a token pat on the back from the few ill educated customers who care or don't understand the full implications of using biofuels?

who cares if this bentley has not very good MPG and high C02, if you have the money to buy a bentley then you wouldnt care how many miles per gallon it did or how high its co2 was, i know if i bought one, i wouldn't care about co2 and mpg and when i do buy one i will say in your face with co2 and mpg. you are obssessed with c02 and mpg and i bet you won't admit to it, so shut up.

So the supercar does 10mpg, well very green that is. Perhaps cutting weight by the shovelfull would offer something more useful. Are the rich that dumb by saying to Joe Public, hey I'm green also and guess what 0-100 I can also do? Sometimes I wonder if the Rich even read the news or just live in a bubble wishing they had more in common with the peasents but viewed from the inside of their Bentley.. Where is the Bentley super-clean Diesel (BMW has the engines) or even the Hybrid (you won't notice the batteries and is the boot ever filled to the brim by the rich anyway).. What about stop-start tech as the Bentleys wallow around city centre traffic by their drivers.
