A new seven-seat option for the Citroen Berlingo Multispace MPV has been unveiled.

The upgrade, called the ‘Family Pack’, gives customers five separate foldable rear seats that can all be removed independently, and will be made available as an £800 option on the 1.6-litre petrol and diesel VTR-spec Citroen Berlingo models.

No doubt this is in response to the Fiat Doblo Family with seven seats that they have been producing for years now.

Sensible move on Citroen's behalf though.

I reckon the crumple zone behind any rearmost seats is pretty minimal, even in something like a Zafira and Grand C4 Picasso. Still, it's good that they've fitted side airbags to the rearmost and middle row outer seats. Plenty of people will buy this in my opinion - it's cheaper than most full-size MPVs yet probably offers similar space - probably more than the likes of a Touran - because the Berlingo does without a bulky transmission tunnel getting in the way of the middle passenger!
