  • Alfa Romeo readies hot Mito GTA

    Jan 20, 2009 11:07 PM

An Alfa Romeo Mito GTA hot hatch will be launched at the Geneva motor show this March, Alfa Romeo has announced.

The Alfa Romeo Mito GTA will get a 240bhp 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine and will keep the electronic Q2 technology, which mimics a mechanical limited-slip differential and is already standard on the whole Mito range.

The new Alfa Mito GTA is based on the same underpinnings as the Fiat Punto Abarth, and Alfa maintains that the GTA will set a new performance benchma...Read the full article

Sounds cool and has potential. Always liked the Alfa GTA models, although part of the appeal was down to the V6 which obviously wouldn't be a good idea in a car this size. A shame it won't have a proper limited slip diff like the diesel 147 Q2 models though - Renault have shown they can work very effectively without being uncivilised.

On the MiTo in general, I'm not 100% sold on the looks, unlike the gorgeous 159 and almost perfect Brera (if only the wheelbase was longer!), but I'm liking what the Italians are doing right now and they're producing many a good alternative to the Mini.

I much prefer the look of this to the (for me over rated) Brera. This looks like the Alfa I might want.

By the way, anyone else think the GT is particularly pretty in comparison to the Brera?

Possibly, I need to see one on the road to make a proper judgement on the looks.

Saw a standard Mito at the British Motorshow and it looked too nose-heavy.

Nose-heaviness is something it has been criticised for, but unfortunately safety regulations have imposed that upon it. You either have a car capable of a 6-star crash rating (when it's introduced) or you have slightly shorter nose. I honestly still really like the Mito's looks though, so much so that i'm awaiting mine impatiently.
