  • Cadillac CTS-V will cost £56k

    Jan 20, 2009 1:34 PM

The new Cadillac CTS-V, the most powerful Cadillac ever built, will cost £56,495 when it goes on sale next month, the firm has announced.

The 556bhp Cadillac CTS-V super-saloon will be available in one trim level, called V-Series, with the choice of an automatic gearbox (which costs an extra £2500).

All cars will be left-hand drive only, as the configuration of the Cadillac CTS-V’s engine and exhaust systems would need extensive (and expensive) re-engineering to convert to right-ha...Read the full article

    Yet still no diesel...

It is the perfect car for these times.  *falls off chair laughing*

However it must be said, I do love it!  When / If Cadillac finally offer the rumoured 2.9 V6 turbo diesel version and price it well, this car will finally be an almost rational choice over the boring but solid E-Class (I mean, 2.9 V6 v 2.2 I4) the ugly and pleby 5-Series and the whole host of also rans that companies insist on producing.  I think the better choice however would be the XF with its new engines.  Finally take the fight to the bosch.

    Tally Ho!

And with diesel costing 30 - 40% more per gallon than gasoline in America, there never will be.  Diesel will NEVER take off there until there is an economic benefit to use it.

The CTS and CTS-V are fantastic cars!  Too bad the V (fastest saloon ever to lap Nurburgring) will be only available in left hand drive.

How come they say it can't be converted to Rhd when its the same basic engine as th Vauxhall VXR8.The exhaust may be different but surely that wouldn't cost the earth to sort out.

I suppose if you ignore the fact it has a v8 petrol engine; the fact that it's left-hand drive only; that the auto version costs an extra £2500; and that as soon as you drive it off the forecourt your £60k car will be worth nearer £2.50, then surely Cadillac have a winner on their hands.

I was suitably impressed with the CTS-V when I heard about all the comments that the German motoring press had made following their Nurburgring tests - by all accounts great to drive, but I think a tad expensive when the new Jaguar XFR will cost £59,670 and comes with auto as std.

Pricing is probably the effect of the weak pound more than anything, how much is a CTS-V in dollars? - $59,995 for US buyers, even at $1.40 to the pound it's much cheaper to import the car, especially when it's still LHD in UK spec. Back at $2 to the pound it would have been a steal.

It's not just the engine that is the problem.  There will also be floor pan, steering column and ancillaries issues preventing the conversion.

I don't blame them for not wanting to spend the extra money on such a limited model.  I'm just happy we are going to get it here full stop.

    It's all about the twisties....
