Cadillac has surprised the Detroit show with its Converj concept, an electric luxury coupe.

Designed by Brit Simon Cox, the Cadillac Converj uses the same propulsion system as the Chevy Volt. The so-called Voltec system means that the wheels are always battery powered, offering a 40-mile range which can then be extended with a four-cylinder petrol engine charging the lithium-ion battery.

Looks good.  Daft name though.  I'd like them to see them go back to the old school caddy style - long and sleek.  The instant torque of the electric motor should go down a treat with the 'step off' obsessed US drivers - I can really see these selling.  I think also that the convenience of not having to stop for gas all the time will be a big plus point as well.   Top marks.

Well they had to do something with the Cien's looks. Might be a bit late though, in more ways than one.

I think it is a fantastic car.........as previous comments I hope they bring it to the EU and it remains as is!!! its good!!

Stuff the volt and that awful piece of tat. Electric cars are pointless when the future of the car is in the form of a brilliant Honda FCX Clarity.

U.S car makes are light years behind when it comes to innovation whereas the Japanese have the sense to realise the best way to power the next generation of cars is by using the planet's most common element Hydrogen.

Are you aware that the drivetrain of the FCX is electric? Or that hydrogen is an energy storage/transmission medium, not a magical source of free energy?

Looks fantastic - I love Simon Cox's work for Cadillac. Well, a lot of it... Thought this was the CTS coupe at first though. It makes the baby Lincoln look even uglier.

But will it have enough performance if it's based on the Volt?
