  • Nissan GT-R V-Spec unveiled

    Jan 08, 2009 11:09 AM

The Nissan GT-R Spec V, the long-awaited extreme version of Nissan’s Porsche 911 Turbo rival has finally been revealed.

The new Nissan GT-R Spec V is a limited-edition special: lighter, rarer and considerably more expensive than the standard Nissan GT-R. And it will be coming to Europe in 2009.

The GT-R Spec V is based on the facelifted GT-R that was launched in Japan just before Christmas.

This means that the Spec V doesn’t get the rumoured 550bhp engine, but it does get t...Read the full article

I am a huge fan of the base car, and it represents fantastic bang for your bucks, however I can understand how Nissan can charge double the price for the Spec V. That is way to close to the 911 Turbo, and doesn't represent the 'super car' killer the base model is. Even 911 GT3 RS, F430 Scuderia, and light weight Gallardo are not double the price!

What I can't understand is how the car is only 60kg lighter??  In the original article it states:

    Wheels - 20kg each x 4 = 80kg

    Brakes - 5kg each x 4 = 20kg

    Exhaust - 5.4kg

By my count thats 105.4kg before you take into account all the carbon fibre weight saving and the loss of the rear seats. Japanese kilos differing to British ones??

I don't believe for a second that each wheel is 20 kg lighter - that screams "typo" to me. Either each wheel weighs 20 kg (which is presumably less than the standard wheel), or the four wheels together are 20 kg lighter (i.e. 5 kg per wheel).

Yes I'm sure it's 20kg from all four wheels, however that price - Nissan have got to be kidding, or hopefully another typo.

Car itself seems utterly brilliant though.

Given its pulverising straight line performance - 0-60 mph in around 3.5 secs etc - especially when you consider its high kerb weight (well over 1700 lbs), I hazard a guess the base GT-R already has 550plus bhp. I just don’t buy Nissan's claimed 473bhp

Surley it would work out cheaper to just buy the majority of the new parts from nismo and then just add them to a normal GTR; the 'victory' spec dosnt seem worth double the price of a normal GTR to me...

Have HKS, Opera etc had a go at a GTR yet?

Yes - well spotted all. 20kg is the overall weight saving from all four wheels. The mistake is now duly rectified

You must really, really, really love a GT-R to spend this kind of money.

Nissan are taking the p*ss!!- there is NO way this is more than double the standard car.....maybe it's Nissans way of clawing back some of the lost revenue by underpricing the standard GT-R??

and wish people would stop mentioning the GT-R with the GT3, 430 Scudareia and Lambo supperleggra- people that buy those type of cars will not consider a GT-R a alternative...

    It's a lot of £££ for a Datsun.

Just worked out that for 112k you can have 10 1.4 Micras....

    That's a combined 870 bhp, a GT-R can't compete with that!!

If you want the ultimate GT-R, what about just bringing in a standard car and taking to it with a spanner and strip the interior yourself. I am sure that will save more than 60kg in itself.

Then with the money saved (or from the bits that you have sold on eBay to some chav that thinks the seats will look great in his Micra), buy the useful parts from Nismo.

I have to agree with the sentiments that this is just a ploy to make Nissan some money.  Why don't they just bite the bullet and say... "We messed up the pricing, we're putting the standard car up a couple of grand, but hey.... its still a bargain".

    It's all about the twisties....
