BMW’s M division has recorded a 50 per cent increase in sales for the year.

M GmbH, the performance car arm of BMW, sold 22,340 vehicles worldwide from November 2007 to November 2008, up from 14,092 vehicles in the previous year. While sales for many manufacturers have been declining, the M Sport division is predicting its most successful year in its 30-year history.

And they are obviously creating M versions of the X6 and X5.

    Seems pointless.

I don't think that an accurate reflection of the situation BMW M division is facing.

This year has been a 'blip' based upon the launch of all the M3 variants- I am also pretty sure the vast majority of M series sales are the M3.

I have to say,  I don't understand the business logic the m versions of the X6 or X5. Don't think they are going to be big sellers.

M series division are going to have to concentrate on producing smaller engines, with better mpg delivering similar power.

I think a M series version of the 1 series would be a seller....

agreed.  a high revving NA 4 pot with no more than 2.5 litres in a lightweight 1 series coupe would be awesome.

question is... would they call it the M1?

    Bring it!!

Same question I was going to ask? I think there is still a huge demand for it.

I dont think they would because the name has too much heritage.

Another problem would be making it better to drive than the 135i (twin-turbo)
