  • Jaguar XJ spied

    Dec 03, 2008 4:46 PM

These are the world's first spy shots of the next generation Jaguar XJ, snapped in the UK today under heavy disguise.

Beneath all the cladding lies a radically modernised version of the British luxury saloon, with styling that's expected to be more in line with the smaller XF's.

The XJ will play a big part in Jaguar's new styling direction. The company's design team is taking the looks of Jaguar's saloons and its sports cars in two different directions.

    Autocar:
A registration check reveals that this mule is running the naturally-aspirated 5.0-litre V8.

"A registration check"? I thought only Plod was able to run plates for identity, ownership and so on. Wasn't there a case recently of some plod jailed for passing ownership details of a car involved in a spat in a carpark to 'a mate' that lead to a reprisal attack on the owner who consequently died from shock? Would Will Powell explain what he means by  "registration check". I for one would like to know why Autocar, a private company, has the ability to command such an action.

Anyone (for a small fee) can write to the DVLA to gain vehicle/ ownership details on almost any registration plate. Scary but true.

Also, if you go to most insurance websites and enter the registration plate of a vehicle, they will display make/model/engine details.

Don't worry horseandcart, a registration check only reveals the vehicle's details, not anything about the owner. They are probably only running a standard HPI check that we used to use in the motor industry. You can pay Experian for the same service, there is nothing underhand going on here.

more likley they did it for free

if u go to dvla.gov.uk then to tezing your veichle link, you can then do a veichle enquiry with a  make and reg number. it gives engine size, colour etc, heres a link to save you the time

    http://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/application;JSESSIONID_EvlPortalApp=J20jkmM3CGqc640mYT2tn7CKGBbblY7CvhBXQQ4DWBhvwH4YJTcn!-1874692578!-891684998?origin=vehicleEnquiryInfo_en.jsp&event=bea.portal.framework.internal.portlet.event&pageid=Vehicle+Enquiry&portletid=VehicleEnquiry&portletns=VehicleEnquiry_en&wfevent=link.next

Or you can get a small ammount of inforamtion from sites like mycarcheck.com

i just realised the link dont work

    so go to www.dvla.gov.uk

then on the right there is a link to "taxing your veichle"

then once that loads there is a green tab on the left that says "veichle enquirey"

from there i think its quite self explanitory what to fill in,

and this is where i think autocar gets there info from

On the contrary, they know that the future owners will mainly favour gin and tonics and wear Edward Heath trousers.

I hope there really is a car with the "XF’s features draped over an Aston Martin Rapide" underneath all that plastic.

Jaguar should develop a graceful, rear wheel drive, highly luxurious MPV - a kind of top class RWD Galaxy - grace, pace and space.  No-one else does - a class of one.

    Bring back Steel Wheels.

Some would say that's exactly what the arse R class already does.

Think I'd debate on the whole grace thing with that one though!

    It's all about the twisties....

    Jaguar invented graceful motoring.

Who cannot be moved with the pronounced haunch of even the current XJ's rear, the dignified poise, the majestic lines, the cosseting interior.......of course, those who haven't driven one.

I look forward to seeing the complete and polished result of the mule. Excuse me, time for a Hendricks and Tonic.
