  • Mazda 3 hatchback revealed

    Mazda has just released pictures of the 5-door hatchback version of the new Mazda 3, which will make its debut at the Bologna motor show.

    The Focus rival will get a range of engines chosen specifically for the European market. Customers will get the option of a 1.6-litre turbodiesel, 1.6 and 2.0-litre petrol engines, or the new 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine first seen in the Mazda 6.

    If they've got their sums right, the spec suggests this could be a potential class leader.

    I never liked the previous generation hatch.  This looks better, but I think the saloon looks very good. I'd certainly consider one as a company car.  180PS Diesel sounds good to me!

     The car looks like a very serious contender - and the interior looks really good too.

    It's Pug ugly at the front and has a fat arse.

    I love it, and I'm liking the fact that Mazda are building up a real identity for themselves. I am seeing a bit touch of Peugeot in that grille, but that's no bad thing. At least Mazda have adopted their own shape for the grille. If they can make it green (i.e make the diesels with CO2s of under 120 g/km), then they'll be onto a big winner like the 2 and the 6. Good work, Mazda! I'm looking forward to the Mazda1 even more now!
    I've got an Aygo and a Meerkovonian meerkat :)
