The winners of this year’s Autocar Awards have just been announced at a ceremony in the Royal Horticultural Halls in London. From a revolutionary electric family car to McLaren's F1 triumph, it's been quite a year for the car business. Autocar recognises and rewards the high achievers of 2008.

    Design award: Ford Fiesta

The new Fiesta is the best example yet of Ford’s ‘Kinetic Design’ principles. It’s also proof that it’s possible to combine striking looks with the need to meet...Read the full article

You people at Autocar have to realise that McLaren DID NOT WIN a championship this year. Hamilton and Ferrari respectively did! It's not that hard to comprehend... just go over the championship standings!

Where, exactly, does Autocar claim McLaren won the championship?

Well, in the first paragraph they wrote about McLaren's triumph when actually it is Hamilton's triumph. I am sick and tired of people overlooking the fact that Ferrari actually triumphed taking 8 wins and the championship versus McLaren's 6 and hence the 2nd place in the final constructors' standings.

Really? Well I'm sick and tired of Ferrari apologists excusing their team's win-at-any-costs behaviour - and the conniving indulgence of the sport's governing body to ensure that happens whenever possible. McLaren deserves to celebrate the driver's championship every bit as much as Hamilton does - a victory that had to be fought for every step of the way. Ferrari's constructors championship would be taken far more seriously if there hadn't been some very questionable decisions in the team's favour. As it is: up yours, Maranello - McLaren took the one that mattered!

I'd have liked to see the Citroen C5 advert win. Glad to see the Hypnos as concept of the year!!
I've got an Aygo and a Meerkovonian meerkat :)

Matters to who? Most enthusiast care most about the team. It's like in footblal. Do you really care more about who plays for your favourite team or whether the team eventually wins? Ferrari's 8 victories and most fastest laps and pole positions prove that the F2008 was the best/quickest car and hence won the title. That would bring the total Constructors' Titles to 16 for Ferrari vs 8 for McLaren... Poor Ron...

What planet are you from? Driver standings are always shown ahead of team standings because it's drivers who ultimately win or lose the races. Look at any TV coverage, look at the official F1 web site - the constructor's championship takes second place to the driver's. The only time people bemoan the amount of attention given to a winning driver is when their guy didn't win. Mentioning no names...
