  • Hyundai i20 'GTi' on the way?

    Oct 22, 2008 3:33 PM

A hot diesel version of the new Hyundai i20 hatchback could make it into production.
The performance-orientated i20 would be the Korean maker’s first step into the modern hot hatch market, but an i20 ‘GTI’ could still fit into the range provided it stuck to the Hyundai budget philosophy.

What happened to Kia being the "sporting" youthful arm of the company?

That aside, it could be a cracking little car if their recent efforts are anything to go by.  I still think its a shame that a decent petrol engine couldn't be included in the range to complement the diesel.

    Hang on!

In the article you say that Hyundai don't have a performance tyre partner.  Yet in the road test of the i20 diesel you state that the car is fitted with Kumho tyres, a manufacturer who produce a decent range of tyres for high performance vehicles?!?!

I appreciate they are not considered the best tyre on the market, but on the whole their performance is well up there with the "branded" manufacturers.

1.6 pumping out 200 horses? That's possible only on petrol power.
