    Volkswagen has released details of its new Golf BlueMotion concept.
    The eco-hatchback uses a 1.6-litre common-rail diesel engine producing 104bhp and 184lb ft of torque, an identical output to the current 1.9-litre Golf BlueMotion.

    About time they brought out a smaller displacement diesel. Specs seem mightly similar to the focus econetic (110), although surprisingly more fuel effecient! Let's hope they finally kill the 1.9 PD, it deserves to be let go and not flogged long beyond its useful life like they did with the old 1.9sdi

    Here here! Good riddance to the 1.9 PD engine. A class leader at its launch in terms of grunt, but never in terms of refinement. The only reason VW continued with it for so long was probably because they didnt want to admit they got it wrong by not following the 'common-rail' herd. A recent quote summed it up well: "This is an engine whose origins date back in decades rather than years"
