  • Revealed: Seat Ibiza Cupra

    Aug 29, 2008 12:10 PM

Seat has revealed the hot Seat Ibiza Cupra ahead of the car’s Paris show debut in October.
The Ibiza Cupra gets its sporting potential from a 178bhp 1.4 TSI twin-turbo engine and a seven-speed double-clutch DSG gearbox, combined with stiffened sports suspension, and a host of driver aids including ESP and traction control.

Where did the Bocenegra face go? Slightly aftermarket looking overall, in my opinion. Still, at least it's got a pretty good engine!

Just nit-picking...but surely this is a supercharged and turbo charged engine. (not a twin turbo)

I hope the dash doesn't look as low rent as the rest of the range but as Harry Hill would say

" What's the chances of that? Hmm?"

Bodes well for the next Polo GTI - That engine and gearbox combination really appeals. Would it fit an Elise? Can VW give us that engine and gearbox in a little two seater about the size of a Porsche 914/16 - or do they already? I can't keep up these days...

    Bring back Steel Wheels.

Sitting in the standard Ibiza at the Motor Show back in July, I thought the dashboard felt okay overall - the air vents in particular had a solid feel to them. And I loved the driving position. I found the overall quality to be on a par with the New Fiesta - mostly pretty good. But I hope they do something to make it even bolder inside - Seat had a bright orange Ibiza 3-door on their stand at the show - with a matching bright orange dashboard!! I loved it personally, and wonder if maybe they'll specify a red dashboard insert on the Cupra, or perhaps a nice high-gloss black. Red stitching is a must, as is a flat-bottomed steering wheel. Plus some proper sporty seats...

    Slightly aftermarket looking overall,
I agree, it looks awful, looks like they've taken a 1.2 down to Halfords for a makeover and failed. Seriously under-wheeled and over body kitted. Rubbish. Lets hope it drives better than it looks!

Its got Chris Bangle 1 series written all down the side.

Bloody ugly car. From the front it looks too squashed in at the sides. Shades of latest Evo rear lights and Lambo central exit exhaust.

Caeser ruled with an iron hand, then with a wooden foot and finally with a piece of string.

So ugly!  looks a mess; too much going on in the design for such a small car

One should also not get their hopes up on this being a stirring drive.  Even though it will be priced closely to it, I would not envisage it even being half as fun to drive as a Clio 197…
