Bugatti has confirmed that it will build 150 of the new Veyron Grand Sports after the open-top version of the world's fastest car was launched at the Pebble Beach Concours.

Rumours of an open-topped Veyron had been around since the car's introduction, but the Grand Sport was only confirmed for production last year. It will take total Veyron production up to 450 cars by 2011, breaking the company's earlier commitment to build no more than 300 Veyrons.

Great news for Saudi Arabia.

I think the Bugatti Veyron is a fabulous car, indeed a masterpiece.  I think it's a reflection of how affluent the world is today that Bugatti has increased the total number of cars it plans to build and sell at these stratospheric price levels.

I think an open-top Bugatti is great, and indeed the pics show it to be beautiful in my eyes.  But I do question the wisdom of traveling over 200 mph with the top down.  Maybe Bugatti will do the decent thing and supply each of the open-top versions with a pair of crash helmets to reduce the risk of hair loss at such speeds.

I would think that many of the buyers in this price category are already suffering from hair loss anyway.

Well i love this car and i would buy it and it is beutifull in every way from the back and front

An utterly pointless car.  As they showed on topgear last week its slower round a track than cars a fraction of the price and where else can you really use it.

pointless to us, but totally relevant to the mega-rich.

a fair chunk of the mega rich can prob live through the current recession very comfortably so makers like Bugatti are surprisingly less badly affected than say BMW
