  • Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer revealed

This is the new Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer, the third variant to join the range after the hatch and saloon revealed at the British motor show last month.
The new model is longer than the hatchback by 80mm, at 4910mm, but it retains the same 2737mm wheelbase.
Two new engine variants will debut in the Insignia wagon, alongside the Read the full article

I really like the look of this. It is a far better design than the saloon in my opinion, and in theses pictures it has a really 'premium' look about it. I might change my mind when there are 10 thousand 1.6 litre versions on skinny 15" wheels on the road but at the moment I think it looks great.

Very nice-looking, even if the rump is a little like the Audi Q7. Saw the saloon in the metal at Excel last month, think it is a very well-designed car, makes the Mondeo look boring and run-of-the mill. Can't wait till the next incarnation of the Astra.

I'm with julianphillips on this one.  Gone are the days when they stuck a box to the back of a saloon.

Part of our acception of estates probably comes from the increase in SUV's with their elongated bodies.  There was once a time when estates were seen as deeply uncool, but this one is truely desirable.  I don't think it will even look too bad with smaller (non press) wheels.

    It's all about the twisties....

Goodness James Read, what are you driving? The Insignia is going to be the best car of 2008/09!

Oh sure. I strongly recommend anyone who has an order in for, say, a Ferrari F430 Scuderia to cancel it immediately and get 2008 / 2009's best car. You ought to be a judge for European Car of the Year. They judge cars in a similar way. Always ends up some boring shitmobile.

Ready is right - anyone remember the Talbot/Simca Horizon?

I WOULD NOT call this bland. It's anything but! The tailgate is one of the most unusual I've seen for a while, and they've done the whole Estate thing rather well in terms of moulding it with the rest of the Insignia's body. I prefer it to the Mondeo Estate or Accord Tourer. Well done Vauxhall! And I don't think European Cars of the Year are ever bland. Not many people can afford Ferraris! I think their winners are usually fantastic cars! Fiat 500, S-Max, Clio, Panda, the list goes on!
I've got an Aygo and a Meerkovonian meerkat :)

This ONE post is why I despair about the future of this forum and for the future of the motor car.

Mr Minimum1, you should think very carefully before posting something like this to posterity - it's as bland a post as the cars you list.

You might not like what I write but I'm on the money because ANYONE who disagrees with me and Ready knows nothing.

    - Hmmm, very adult

Bland - no, it's not a Ferrari but in its segment and compared to its competition it's an excellent effort. One could equally criticise a Ferrari for its poor load space or inability to seat 5, so maybe a more sensible choice of competitor would be in order!

In amongst all the vitriol no-one seems to have noticed the unique rear hatch feature - the whole section, including the lights lifts up to give a massive enclosure and ease of loading.

He's right. This forum is SO left wing. You have to be a man of the people to get on in here. Make any free-thinking, individual remark or comment and you get a written thrashing. This is why the Vauxhall [JR spits] is the Car of the Year in many people's minds - because they can't see further than a car that they and others can afford. Aspirations and reality (a f**k**g new Ferrari is ALWAYS a better car than a new Vauxhall) never come into it.
