Mazda has announced plans to cut its fuel consumption by 30 per cent by 2015 with a whole new line-up of lighter and more efficient vehicles.

Some of the firm’s new initiatives include the widespread use of direct-injection engines and stop-start technology on its fleet of models. But Mazda also hopes to build on its recent gains in weight saving.

Mazda are really going to go places.  They have classy and interesting design and a great understanding of the importance of lightness.  Well done Mazda!

At last a manufacturer doing more than adding higher gearing and low friction tyres in a bid to improve economy.

 This should benefit handling and performance as well.

Others have talked about cutting weight but only Mazda seems to be serious at the moment.

Agree 100% with earlier posts Mazda are showing everyone else what can be done.

But why are Ford not doing the same after all they do own Mazda, think of the Mondeo, over weight and over sized.
