All very misleading.
To start with, the famous 'D' emblem in the article is that of the old British marque and is thus of no relevance to the text.
Second, DaimlerChrysler AG, the company in the title and in whom ADIA are looking to invest, was permitted by Jaguar to use 'Daimler' on their notepaper once Chrysler had been sold. But Daimler is not a German-owned brand and they cannot manufacture vehicles bearing the name. Simple as.
As far as I know, TATA become outright owners when the Ford deal went through, and their plan is to revive Daimler for a mega-luxury product that competes with Rolls-Royce and Bentley. There is no covenant restricting the brand's use here or abroad (and there never was).
I'm hazarding a guess when I say that the reason the Super V8 was sold as a Vanden Plas in the U.S. was because of confusion with the erstwhile DaimlerChrysler.
If anyone knows different perhaps they could enlighten me. And Autocar, fix that picture in the article, eh?
